Q: Does virtual Reality really need photorealism? There are other paths as well.
A (Dr. Vangelis Lympouridis): Absolutely! Photorealism primarily concerns the casting of light and shadow on surfaces and not that much the materials and textures. When it comes to Digital Humans photorealism can enhance social presence as more emotional cues are cuptured and transfered. We are a few years away from that…
Q: But our ability to immerse ourselves does not need photorealistic representation; it needs a good story to believe in. We believe puppets are real in a good puppet theatre show. We feel bad for mario when he gets stomped by bowser… Photorealism is an interesting development, but I see other options as well, even for VR, especially for AR/MR.
A (Dr. Vangelis Lympouridis): Absolutely, no question about it. But on scale adoption things become complicated. The future is brave and complex, integrative, dematerialized and although global more and more idiomatic. Style and preference will define topologies of expression in XR that appeal within frames of reference
Q: Congratulations for your presentation and amazing projects. I would like to ask though how can we use technologies equally when not everyone has access to technology? How can it become more participatory and impactful socially?
A (Dr. Vangelis Lympouridis): Indeed. This is the main reason why technology is not panacea. Accessibility and equitable share of opportunity is political and social. Creative Industries can introduce and shape narratives as mentioned that push towards that direction. Also, as mentioned cosmolocalism is a very interesting model that proposes that knowledge is shared internationally “digital commons” and manufacture is happening locally in small scale. Is a fusion of cosmopolitanism and internationalisms by taking the best of both. Locality is the best way to address cosmopolitanism and focus on the -inter not the -nationalism of internationalism
Q: Where do u see AR tech and tools on Marketing in 3 years?
A (Dr. Vangelis Lympouridis): The question is where societies are in 3 years. AR tech on phones will create a lot of opportunities for marketing through low code, no code and drag and drop dev through big databases of assets. Enklu is an example of that architecture
Q: WORTH Partnership Project seems to end in 2021. Are there any plans for the future?
A (Silvia Draghi): Well, yes, there are many opportunities for cultural and creative industries. There are many and different EU programs, like Horizon and Creative Europe. we will send the question to Siliva by email.
Q: When we have to expect the new call for creative Europe programme?
A (Silvia Draghi): This is the webpage where you find the annual work programmes of Creative Europe:
https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/creative-europe/annual-work-programmes_en
The work programme contains all the actions planned for the year and a timeline. The 2021 WP will be published here as well.
Q: Dr. Pechlivani, thank you very much for the interesting presentation! You have mentioned that there is an agenda for adding large scale 3d-printers in your facilities. Could you please elaborate this further on the technical side?
A (Dr. Eleftheria – Maria Pechlivani): Hi Vaia, thank you for the interest. The Industrial printers enables us to manufacture large area plastic parts even on 1mx1mx1 and over large area metallic, composites and ceramic prototypes. For more information, please let’s have a b2b meeting through the matchmaking platform or through my email riapechl@iti.gr. Best, Ria
Q: Thank you very much. I would like to ask Dr Ioannidis, I have seen several virtual tours (mainly developed during the pandemic), that actually bring the visitor to the site, museums mainly use scanned pictures of their galleries and travel agencies recorded 360 videos with a guide. Is there a technology for a live 360 virtual tour conducted by a guide with live interactions with the virtual visitors? Thank you.
A (Dr. Dimosthenis Ioannidis): Yes, there are platforms that provide real-time 360 experience; however, such services are demanding (in bandwidth) and relevant infrastructure shall be available by both sides (service provider & consumer side / 4G or WIFI).
